If you've been struggling through updates to Windows 10 lately, maybe you wouldn't be so surprised to learn that Toyota outranked the computer company on MIT Technology Review's 50 Smartest Companies of 2016 list.
At Lithia Toyota of Missoula, we're proud that Toyota was not only honored as one of only two automotive companies to make the list, but that it ranked so high, at 17 out of 50 global businesses.
Why all the attention?
Toyota is transcending its role as a simple automaker, and diving two-feet-first into the realm of artificial intelligence and robotics. The Toyota Research Institute launched in January 2016 to the tune of a $1 billion investment, with locations in California, Massachusetts, and Michigan. TRI's focus is broad, with initial projects ranging from in-home assistance robots designed to help those with limited mobility, machine-learning geared for cars, and practical self-driving cars to go into production in the near future.
