The Cars.com American-Made Index is designed for people looking for the best way to spend their money to promote American manufacturing. It's not always easy to know which models are more American than others. Many automakers like to boast about how patriotic they are, regardless of where their vehicles are built, or, even more importantly, where their parts come from.

It can be easy enough to track down where a finished vehicle is assembled, but it is a challenge to find out where the engine was made, where the axles came from, or where the body panels were stamped.

To be listed on the American-Made Index, a model must use at least 75 percent American parts. In 2016, only eight models qualified, and two were Toyotas.

The No. 1 most American-made car of 2016, for the second year in a row is the Toyota Camry. Test drive it today, or browse other new vehicles at Lithia Toyota of Missoula.
